The 2014 AP World scores have been released, and they are okay. Last year was a good year - this year was a bit substandard. To be honest, I predicted this since there was a general silliness and lack of work ethic compared to past years. I think we hammered the content well, but needed more work on the essays.
From the College Board:
Great work from AP World History teachers/students, some of the most dramatic score increases of any subject: much higher % of 3s/4s/5s. I don't believe any subject has bigger differences between multiple-choice scores (excellent) & essay scores (dismal) than AP World History. AP World History students did extremely well on multiple-choice, esp Periods 1 & 2 (pre-600 CE); slightly less well on Period 4 (1450-1750). While student mastery improved significantly in AP World History this year, low avg scores on the essays keep many from scoring 3+. Average scores on the 3 AP World History essays are very low: Q1 (DBQ): 29%; Q2: 21%; Q3: 19%. A significant % of AP World History students earned 0 pts on various essays: Q1 (DBQ) 19% got 0/9 pts; Q2: 32% got 0/9; Q3: 35% got 0/9.
Special kudos go to Nilbert Pascual (5), Jamie Hake (4), Karam Samplay (4), and Victor Magdaleno-Garcia (4). Fifteen students received a score of 3, nineteen received a 2 and twelve received a 1.
Students signed up for AP World History 2014-2015 - be warned. This means we have to hit it harder, more essays, and I will not tolerate slacking or general lolligagging. Be ready to go on day one or it will be a rough ride...
The chart to the right shows the scores from 5 on the left to 1 on the right. The orange bars are the PHS percentages, the red white and blue bars are the National average.
