Although the normal Pittsburg High School policy is to not allow students to drop out of AP classes once they have signed up, there are a few exceptions that can be made. The AP World History class, as you have figured out, is extremely challenging and not everyone is quite ready for it. If one semester is enough, there is a chance (no guarantee!) that Mr. Whitmire will sign off on a schedule change, providing the following conditions are met:
- You signed up for this class, so you need to change your schedule in order to make it work out. This is on you.
- It is unfair to other teachers to have their classes fill up while mine dwindle. If you decide that you would be better off in the regular World History class for the spring semester, then you will be in one of my classes – periods 2, 5 or 6. No exceptions to this.
- The grade book starts over with the new semester, so there is a chance to start over with a clean slate. Several students who had unsuccessful first semesters improved in the second semester, and made up the first semester’s grade in summer school.
